Working Principle
The strip pickling tank primarily utilizes the chemical reaction between the acid solution and metal oxides to remove the iron oxide scale from the strip surface. Commonly used acids include hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. Hydrochloric acid pickling mainly relies on chemical dissolution, with minimal corrosion to the metal substrate, resulting in a bright and clean surface after pickling. Sulfuric acid pickling mainly relies on mechanical stripping; the expansion pressure of hydrogen gas produced by the reaction of iron in the steel with the sulfuric acid solution peels the iron oxide scale from the steel strip.
Types and Features
- Continuous Horizontal Pickling Tank: The steel strip continuously passes through a pickling tank containing the acid solution. It features continuous process operation and high production efficiency, making it a widely used type of pickling tank.
- Continuous Tower Pickling Tank: The steel strip runs in a vertical tower, and the acid solution is sprayed onto the steel strip surface through perforated pipes on the tower sections. Its advantages include lower acid consumption and high production efficiency, but it has disadvantages such as inconvenient maintenance and complex strip centering.
- Shallow Trough Turbulent Flow Pickling Tank: For example, the shallow trough turbulent flow pickling tank from SMS Demag. The acid tank is narrower, reducing the acid evaporation area, and the pickling and rinsing sections can use the same length of squeeze rollers, reducing operating costs and spare parts requirements.
