Waste Acid Tank

The waste acid tank is a storage tank used in highly corrosive processes such as pickling, phosphoric acid, and hydrofluoric acid production for "temporarily storing waste acid, periodic external discharge, or waiting for regeneration." Although the waste acid tank does not participate in the reaction, it contains mixed acid at the end of its pickling life, at a temperature of 40–70 °C, making it extremely corrosive. Therefore, the material and structural design are more stringent than those of working acid tanks.

Core Functions

Collection and Buffering: Collects waste acid from different production lines or at different times, balancing flow fluctuations between production and treatment units, ensuring continuous and stable feeding to the treatment system.
Homogenization: Through storage and stirring, the incoming waste acid, which may have significant fluctuations in composition and concentration, is mixed evenly, providing a stable raw material for subsequent treatment (such as regeneration and neutralization). This is crucial for ensuring treatment effectiveness and stable operating conditions.

Emergency Response: Provides sufficient storage capacity in case of production line failure or treatment system maintenance, preventing waste acid overflow and environmental accidents.
Preparation for Regeneration Treatment: For processes using calcination regeneration, the waste acid needs necessary pretreatment in the storage tank before entering the core equipment, such as conditioning, sedimentation, and filtration to remove large particulate impurities.

Structural Design Key Points

Shape: Vertical cylindrical or horizontal elliptical head, L/D≈1.2–1.5, for easy transportation and on-site installation; the top is equipped with a DN500 manhole + DN250 breathing valve to prevent collapse during pumping.
Slope: Conical bottom with an angle of inclination ≥15°, with a DN100 drain valve in the center to ensure self-draining of FeCl₂ crystals; 0.3 MPa steam half-pipes are attached to the outer wall of the conical bottom to melt crystals during shutdown.
Leak Prevention: The tank opening has a 200 mm flange as an "overflow weir," so that any overflow flows along the outer wall into an annular collection tray, which is connected to an emergency pool; a 2 mm HDPE anti-seepage membrane is laid between the tank bottom plate and the foundation, with a permeability coefficient ≤10⁻¹³ cm/s.

Operation tank
Liquid Level: A dual system of steel-lined PTFE magnetic level gauge + guided wave radar is used, with 4–20 mA signals fed into the DCS; high-high level interlocking stops the pump and closes the inlet pneumatic valve. Operation and Maintenance Challenges
Sediment Removal: Regularly drain the tank and clean out accumulated sludge and impurities from the bottom.
Lining Inspection: Conduct regular visual inspections and spark testing to promptly identify and repair any damage to the lining, preventing corrosion and perforation of the base material.
Agitator Maintenance: Inspect the shaft seals and blades for corrosion and wear.
Safe Operation: Before tank cleaning operations, the tank must be thoroughly cleaned, ventilated, and tested. A confined space entry permit must be obtained to prevent poisoning and explosion risks.
