Structural Features
- Shape: Typically a horizontal cylinder, sealed at both ends with end caps. Common end cap types include elliptical, dished, or hemispherical heads.
- Support Method: Generally supported on the ground or foundation by saddle supports. Saddle supports evenly distribute the load on the tank, ensuring its stability.
- Components: Mainly composed of the tank body, supports, manhole, level gauge, breather valve, inlet/outlet, and drain. A jacket can be added according to process requirements to achieve heating or cooling functions.

Area |
Large footprint, but low height |
Small footprint, but high height. |

Space utilization |
Suitable for ground level or shallow burial, does not utilize elevated space; |
Sutilizes elevated space, saving floor space. |

|
Pressure resistance |
Typically higher, often used in pressure vessel design |
Atmospheric pressure or slight internal pressure (except for low-pressure tanks) |
|
|
Capacity range |
Smaller, typically a few cubic meters to several hundred cubic meters |
Very large, reaching tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of cubic meters. |
|
|
Hydrostatic pressure distribution |
The liquid level is uniform along its length, resulting in relatively small pressure changes when the liquid level changes. |
The pressure varies greatly along the height direction, and the bottom of the tank bears the maximum static pressure. |
|
|
Typical applications |
Intermediate process tanks, transport tanks, underground tanks at gas stations, and liquefied gas storage tanks |
Large-scale raw material/product storage and strategic reserve warehouses |

Application Areas
Petrochemicals: Storage and transportation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) (as pressure tanks or insulated tanks), underground oil storage tanks at gas stations, small intermediate tanks for raw materials or products, solvent storage tanks.
Energy and Gas: Buffer tanks for community LPG supply stations and compressed natural gas (CNG) mother/daughter stations.
Food and Brewing: Fermentation and storage tanks (usually made of stainless steel) for wine, juice, and syrup.
Water Supply and Environmental Protection: Intermediate water tanks in small water treatment systems, pressure water supply tanks.
Transportation: The tank bodies of railway tank cars and truck tank cars are themselves horizontal storage tanks.
Industrial Processes: Expansion tanks in boiler systems, gas distribution cylinders, buffer tanks and separators for various pressurized reactions.
