Y Shaped Filter

Y shaped filters are named for their shell shape, which resembles the letter "Y". Their core function is to be installed on pipelines to mechanically and coarsely remove relatively large solid particles from fluids (liquids or gases).

Working Principle

Acid flows into the inlet of the Y shaped filter along the pipeline. After being filtered by the filter screen, impurities are trapped in the filter basket. The purified acid flows through the filter screen pores to the outlet. When impurities accumulate and cause an increase in the inlet-outlet pressure difference, the drain port is opened to discharge the impurities, or the plug is removed and the filter basket is cleaned to restore filtration performance.

Main Types and Selection

1. By Connection Method:
Threaded Connection: Small diameter (DN15-DN50), commonly used for instruments and small equipment.
Flanged Connection: Large diameter (DN50 and above), used for main pipelines.
Butt-Welded Connection: Used for high pressure or harsh conditions where leakage is not allowed.

2. By Filter Type and Precision:
Standard Wire Mesh: The most common, with a filtration precision typically ranging from 10 to 100 mesh (approximately 2000μm to 150μm). A higher mesh number indicates smaller pore size and higher precision.
Perforated Plate Filter: Higher strength, lower precision, used to capture larger particles.
Special Filter: Materials and precision can be customized as needed.

3. By Operating Conditions:
General Type: Used for conventional water and gas.
High Temperature & High Pressure Type: Reinforced design, used for steam or high-temperature oil systems.
Corrosion-Resistant Type: Housing and filter screen are made entirely of stainless steel (e.g., 316L), plastic (PP, PVDF), or lined with fluoroplastics, used for corrosive media (e.g., acids, alkalis).
